Chief Estimator
Mike Smith brings more than 25 years of hands-on construction expertise to his role as Chief Estimator at EDiS Company. Mike’s career began in the field working in his family’s business, where he developed a foundation as a Superintendent before advancing through Project Management and, from 2001 onward, taking on estimating alongside the full spectrum of GC and special project work. Prior to joining EDiS, he served as a Senior Leader at another Wilmington-based construction firm, where he estimated 138 projects and secured 102 awards totaling $134 million. His career has spanned both commercial and residential construction, giving him a well-rounded perspective that informs every estimate he produces.
Mike has cultivated deep expertise across some of the region’s most complex and consequential project types. He is particularly experienced in K–12 and higher education work — having delivered projects for the University of Delaware, Millersville University, Franklin & Marshall College, and West Chester University — as well as VA hospitals, healthcare facilities, and laboratory environments. This breadth of institutional and mission-critical project experience has sharpened his ability to anticipate cost drivers, manage risk, and deliver accurate, competitive bids on projects where precision truly matters.
What sets Mike apart as an estimator is the combination of field experience and intellectual humility he brings to every project. Having worked as a Superintendent early in his career, he understands construction at a ground level — a perspective that makes him a more accurate and practical estimator. He is deeply collaborative, believing strongly that great outcomes come from teamwork regardless of title or rank. A committed lifelong learner, Mike approaches every project as an opportunity to grow, and is never afraid to ask a question when it leads to a better answer. Outside of work, he is an advocate and donor for the YMCA, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a former track and cross country coach — reflecting the same commitment to community and developing others that defines his professional life.
