AI du Pont Hospital bid the $1.5 million Pediatric Cancer Research Center with a five-month construction schedule.  EDiS was awarded the project in October, and was told AI du Pont Hospital required the project was 100% complete, punch-listed and turned over by the end of the year (in less than 3 months). As with most labs, the project was heavily mechanical and due to the compressed 2-1/2 month construction schedule, multiple shifts were required. In addition to multiple shifts, substantial manpower and coordination between trades was required. In the end, EDiS received the formal Certificate of Occupancy, completed the punchlist and turned over the new Nemours Cancer Research Center to AI du Pont Hospital on time. Had EDiS not achieved this difficult goal, AI du Pont Hospital would have lost the grant for this project. The stakes were high, but the performance was higher.

  • Compressed schedule by half (from 5 months to 2 1/2 months) to meet grant requirements.
  • Managed multiple shifts and increased manpower to achieve the goal within the budget.
  • Coordination of utility “shut downs” with an adjacent working lab so as to not jeopardize ongoing delicate research.
  • Substantial mechanical, electrical and fire protection coordination.
  • Coordinated the installation and tie-in of owner’s major equipment, coolers, microscopes, fume hoods, liquid nitrogen, and medical gas systems.
