Safety Reminders
- Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume damaged or fallen lines are energized and report them to the appropriate utility or emergency authorities.
- Use generators safely. Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, basement, or other enclosed area. Keep generators at least 20 feet from windows, doors, and vents.
- Avoid damaged buildings and flooded areas. Do not enter buildings with visible structural damage until they have been determined safe, and never drive through flooded roadways.
- Document storm damage. Take photos and videos of property damage before cleanup or repairs when it is safe to do so, and contact your insurance provider promptly.
- Check food after a power outage. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible and discard food that may no longer be safe after an extended outage.
- Check road conditions before traveling. Debris, standing water, damaged traffic signals, and road closures may remain even after the storm has passed.
Please continue to follow guidance from the City of Dover, Kent County, DEMA, and local emergency officials as recovery efforts continue.
