Before becoming a full-time project engineer during spring 2021, I had the privilege of working for EDiS Company as a “full-time intern” while I continued my education toward an Associates in Construction Management from Delaware Technical Community College. It was an experience that set me up well for a future in the construction field. Education and experience are both equally important and I was lucky to tackle both simultaneously. I was able to directly apply the content I was learning in the classroom to the daily work I was performing for EDiS. There would also be instances where I learned something at work that would later be taught in class, giving me an advantage. It was a unique experience to have the teachers explain the basis of the material and then have a coworker take that content to the next level and apply it to a real-world scenario.

The measure of a student’s success depends on the abilities of their mentors. The folks at EDiS never failed to make work both fun and interesting. Every new task started with an end result and provided all of the steps I needed to take to get there, helping me succeed in both my work and my studies. What made learning about project management more motivational was the reward of seeing my hard work manifested daily on each job site. I’m grateful for my time as an intern and hope to better myself with each passing year at EDiS.
