Some projects are about more than constructing a new building. They’re about creating a place where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
EDiS Company was honored to join the Colonial School District, students, families, staff, and community leaders for the official groundbreaking of the new John G. Leach School in Bear, Delaware. The celebration was especially meaningful as students participated in the ceremony using specially designed mechanized shovels, ensuring they could be part of this exciting milestone.
A special thank you to Diamond Mechanical for donating the materials for these specialized shovels and to Frank Hughes, Leach School physical education teacher, for building them. Their thoughtfulness helped make the groundbreaking an inclusive and memorable experience for the students at the heart of this project.

The new approximately 64,500-square-foot school will replace a 60-year-old facility and is being thoughtfully designed to better serve students with significant disabilities and complex medical needs from across Delaware.
The facility will feature larger instructional spaces, expanded therapy areas, accessible bathrooms and hallways, dedicated storage for mobility devices, and covered bus access to provide safer arrivals and departures. Every detail is being considered with the students, educators, and families who will use the building in mind.
With completion anticipated in 2027, the new Leach School represents an exciting next chapter for a school community that has touched countless lives.
We are incredibly proud to partner with the Colonial School District on a project that will make such a meaningful difference for generations of students. We look forward to watching this special school take shape.
