In need of an expansion to their laboratory suite on the basement floor of the Clinical Building on the Lewes Campus, Beebe Healthcare hired EDiS Company as the general contractor to carry the project smoothly to fruition. The project was constructed in phases and all the existing lab activities had to remain active while construction was performed. Beebe lab work is a 24 hour a day, 7 day per week operation, therefore, the phasing had to be done in such a way to ensure that all services and occupants remained uninterrupted. This project, as do all projects at Beebe Hospital, take place in an occupied area, meaning different ICRA barrier meetings and permits were top priority. EDiS coordinated work with the equipment suppliers while also successfully navigating many COVID-19 rule changes.

Building
in phases the right way.
- Renovations to the Histology Department. The existing area was modified for better “flow,” including new walls, ceiling, lighting, flooring, and casework.
- New Pathology Department offices and a new toilet room.
- The Hematology Department had the now former water room removed and its Heme machine turned, to accommodate new Roche equipment for the Chemistry Department. Power, water, and flooring patching were involved.
- The work for the Chemistry department modified the water system needed for new Roche machines. This area had a wall demolition and the establishment of a new water processing location added. Power changes, IT additions, and flooring patches were all a part of this phase.
- EDiS renovated the department’s former Pathology are into the Sterile Processing Department’s office. This area has all new finishes, a flammable storage room, and a new toilet room.
- Sterile Processing Department: Beebe hired a trailer for sterile processing of operating tools which afforded EDiS the ability to completely dismantle the decontamination area, replace a large sanitary line, and build it back new in addition to a new sterile room. Upon completion of the decontamination room and the sterile room, the storage moved temporarily while EDiS completed renovations to the storage area. These areas have new Stonhard flooring, wall protection from floor to ceiling, all new ceilings, lighting, relocated electric disconnects, relocated Steris equipment, and more.
