Celebrating Heart Health All February Long

heart health

February is American Heart Month, a national observance dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and encouraging all of us to take steps toward stronger hearts and healthier lives. First proclaimed in 1964, American Heart Month invites individuals and organizations to learn about heart disease risks, spread the message of prevention, and take action in their communities. It also highlights how small lifestyle changes, from regular activity to better nutrition, can make a big difference in long-term health.

At EDiS, we take heart health, and overall wellbeing, seriously. We believe a healthy team is a stronger team, and that commitment is embodied in our Well-01(k) Program. We often say, “companies don’t build buildings — people do,” and that’s at the heart of why we invest in long-term employee health.

Well-01(k) was born out of a realization that financial wellbeing, though important, is only one part of truly enjoying life. Programs like biometric screenings, health education, an on-site fitness center, participation incentives, a company bike club, and ongoing physical assessments help employees focus on their physical, mental, and emotional health. Partnering with CardioKinetics has also allowed us to take a personalized, relationship-based approach to wellness that mirrors our people-first philosophy.

A key component of this program is the exercise EKG test offered to employees. Unlike a traditional resting assessment, this evaluation monitors heart activity while an individual is exercising. This approach provides valuable insight into how the heart performs under physical stress — directly aligning with the goals of American Heart Month. Beyond diagnostics, employees receive individualized guidance through an exercise prescription designed to safely strengthen cardiovascular health, improve endurance, and help prevent long-term heart disease. It’s a proactive, preventative tool that empowers employees with knowledge about their own heart health.

This February, as the nation turns its attention to heart health, we’re proud to support the American Heart Association’s mission of educating, empowering, and inspiring better cardiovascular health. Together, we’re reminding our team and our community that heart health isn’t just for one month — it’s part of living well year-round. Whether it’s walking with coworkers, learning CPR, making heart-healthy choices, or simply checking in on a friend or family member, every action counts toward a healthier heart and healthier community.

For those looking to learn more, we encourage you to visit the American Heart Association’s website for valuable resources, educational tools, heart health statistics, and opportunities to volunteer or contribute. Awareness and prevention begin with knowledge and small steps today can lead to lasting health benefits tomorrow.
