Estimator

Corporate Office, Wilmington, DE

Estimator

Position Summary

If you can read a set of plans like it’s your morning paper, and your happy place is somewhere between a spreadsheet and a pre-bid, we might already like you.

At EDiS, we’ve got an open estimating job for an Estimator who doesn’t just crunch numbers, but builds the “foundation” for everything that comes next. You’ll play a key role in helping us budget work that builds what matters – from schools and hospitals, to community centers and commercial hubs.

This is a role for someone who loves the challenge of assembling a rock-solid estimate, knows how to spot a gap in a scope package, and understands that our relationships with architects and subcontractors are just as important as our relationships with clients.

Still with us? Let’s talk.

Your priorities will be:

  1. Estimate with Confidence: Lead estimating efforts on individual projects – takeoffs, subcontractor outreach, pricing, and everything else that goes into a premier estimate. No numbers scratched onto a napkin over here!
  2. Read Between the Lines (and Specs): Analyze drawings, specs, and scopes with detective-like precision – and flag what’s missing.
  3. Pre-Bid Partner: Site visits, scopes, RFIs, and coordination with subcontractors and suppliers for max clarity and coverage is just how you operate.
  4. Trade Ally: Build and maintain authentic relationships with trade contractors and suppliers – so that they’ll always pick up when you call.

What’s your first step?

Typically, our hiring process follows the order below. We won’t move you on to the next round unless we’re serious about it, and we’ll let you know where you stand.

  1. First, we’ll review your resume. If you haven’t included references, you may be asked for them.
  2. Next, you’ll be invited to schedule a 30-minute screening call with a member of our team.

Day to Day you will:

  • Run detailed takeoffs for civil, structural, architectural, and MEP trades (bonus points if you can keep count even when you get interrupted).
  • Coordinate and lead pre-bid activities—because you know success starts way before the due date.
  • Maintain our calendar of work and do your part to keep the team aligned, informed, and occasionally caffeinated.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations to incorporate trends, pricing shifts, or cost-saving options into our budgets and estimates.
  • Help us keep improving how we estimate—because innovation doesn’t stop. Neither do we.

Your Skills Look Like:

  • Construction-Savvy: You know your way around documents, scopes, and market costs—and can understand them without a translator.
  • Spreadsheet Surgeon: Fluent in Excel and industry tools (QTO, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project), and maybe a wizard at bid tabs.
  • Trade partner & Architect-Friendly: You’ve got a strong network—and they trust you because you know your stuff.
  • Risk Radar: You spot red flags early and help communicate them to the team.
  • Fast on Your Feet: You stay calm on bid day, handle curveballs with grace, and keep things moving when the clock is ticking. Think Ranger Suarez and his apparently exceptionally chill heart rate.

Your Experience Looks Like:

  • A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience estimating commercial projects over $5M.
  • Knowledge across multiple sectors (K-12, Higher Ed, Healthcare, Office, Pre-Engineered Buildings).
  • Experience with a range of delivery methods (CM, GC, Design-Build).
  • Bonus points for ASPE certification or active involvement!

Your Benefits Looks Like:

  • Medical and Dental Insurance
  • 401(k) match
  • Wellness Program
  • Short & Long Term Disability
  • Maternity & Paternity Leave
  • Tuition reimbursement program.
