Director of Business Development

EDiS’ Director of Business Development is responsible for championing EDiS’ business development strategy and developing business relationships to solicit prospective and existing clients to promote EDiS’ construction services. This position is the company’s “door opener” to new clients and new projects, and is responsible for generating, qualifying, and managing targeted communication relating to sales opportunities.

The Director of Business Development owns the management of the sales funnel, and is responsible for converting leads into projects by stewarding them through the Business Development process. The Director of Business Development will spend significant time researching potential new clients and business opportunities, qualifying leads, and converting those leads independently or passing those leads on to members of the EDiS leadership team while continuing to track them and assisting with targeted outreach and follow up.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Drive all EDiS business development activities to accelerate business growth.
  2. Work with CEO, executive leadership team, and Director of Marketing & Business Development Support to create and implement winning strategies to meet sales goals in designated markets, geographical sectors, and new growth markets.
  3. Develop and qualify prospects for business in the Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey markets.
  4. Initiate and maintain liaison with clients, local/regional key decision makers, contractors, and A/E contacts to seek out new opportunities for work.
  5. Ownership of the sales funnel and responsibility for converting leads into projects by stewarding them through the Business Development process, whether directly or by working with a member of the executive leadership team.
  6. Responsible for sales tracking and reporting activities. Lead the tracking, updating, and management of clients, prospective clients, and project opportunities in the company’s Salesforce CRM system.
  7. Assist in maintaining Business Development List for executive leadership team members, tracking active leads and contacts, and assist with follow ups and communication as requested by those team members. Motivate and maintain activity.
  8. Represent EDiS at client, industry, and civic events. Network/participate on market sector trade organization committees and boards.
  9. Position EDiS with potential clients to secure business and work with marketing staff to target ongoing communication efforts to potential clients.
  10. Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development team to prepare effective proposals and presentations.
  11. Provide advice, guidance, and direction to marketing team members to support marketing efforts and professional development.
  12. Lead the corporate relationship management effort by communicating the EDiS sales message internally and educating EDiS employees on their role in business development.

  6. Team oriented with the ability to positively interact with and lead internal and external team members – reliable, honest, outgoing, friendly, approachable.
  7. Understanding of marketing fundamentals.
  8. Proficient with Salesforce or other similar CRM system.
  9. Superior communication skills – writing, grammar, proofreading, and verbal skills.
  10. Ability to work independently and make strategic, effective decisions.
  11. Exceptional multi-tasking skills and ability to remain poised and professional under pressure.
  12. Open to direction and feedback, listens and seeks clarification.
  13. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Required Education and Experience

  1. 4-year degree relating to construction/design, business, communications, or marketing.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of business development, sales, or construction project management experience.
  3. Demonstrated success in strategic sales in a business-to-business sales environment.
