Building

history through community.

In 1998, the State of Delaware’s logging system reflected that Bear Library served approximately 400,000 visitors a year, a number that was on the increase.  By 2011, the library had some of the highest public computer use recorded. The surrounding community had steadily grown in population, and the facility struggled to keep up with the growing demand. EDiS Company performed renovations in 2012 to upgrade the facility in both size and function.

comfort with modern spaces.

From aesthetic upgrades to outdated mechanical systems for patron comfort, the renovation included more meeting rooms and private study space, a variety of seating throughout for visitors, clearer signage and way finding, and improved sightlines. The facility also has a separate zoned area for children with technology, reading areas and a substantial story time programming component.

"At New Castle County, we were extremely pleased with EDiS Company's performance during our renovations at Bear Library. EDiS not only completed our building, they took an extra interest in our project goals and took great measures to fulfill our wishes."

Building

on time and on budget.

The Bear Library project team faced a fast-track schedule of eleven and a half months to complete the renovations. Working closely with Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture, New Castle County Community Services and Special Services, Friends of Bear Library and the Library Director, Eric Kuhn, the team delivered the project on time and within budget. With the Presidential election approaching in November 2012, the team collaborated to develop a bid strategy, coordinating subcontractors and the permitting process in order to allow the Bear Library to temporarily open during the polling season, for primary and general elections. Through proper safety measures and by planning ahead for the elections, the EDiS team was able to maintain construction activities while the public utilized the facility.
