Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League

In 2003, EDiS began an initiative with joint venture partner, the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL), with the objective of identifying, educating and retaining disadvantaged businesses on EDiS projects. EDiS and the Urban League are committed to a long-term initiative to:
  1. Identify disadvantaged businesses: EDiS and the MWUL recognize that a variety of data exists identifying disadvantaged businesses that have a desire to work on commercial projects. Both the Urban League and EDiS are committed to validating the existing lists and expanding them. The MWUL will work to validate that the procurement process is legitimate and open to all qualified contractors who demonstrate a desire to be involved.
  2. Education: EDiS and the MWUL recognize that the construction industry can do a better job assimilating disadvantaged businesses into the procurement process. In addition, we recognize that in order to be successful in winning contracts, disadvantaged businesses should align their skill sets for appropriate projects and promote their business.

We are also committed to promoting an educational process for all grade levels, allowing them access to mentoring and job shadowing at EDiS.

EDiS and the MWUL are committed to educating both the construction industry, disadvantaged businesses and students in order to create lasting relationships and business connections.
  3. Retention: Our long-term objective is to create lasting relationships. EDiS and the MWUL will work to not just introduce disadvantaged businesses to the opportunities, but to create ongoing communication.
